Put the Brakes on the Ghost Kitchen Opening at 5325 Adeline!

Residents say NO to CloudKitchens opening until the City resolves
ALL community concerns about this business operating at this location.

CloudKitchens plans to open this July, operating 36 commercial kitchens that sell to more than a 1,000 take-out customers per day, 16-18 hours a day, 7 days a week, without off-street parking.

The City’s Planning & Building Department swiftly approved permits for this business, owned by billionaire and former Uber CEO Travis Kalanick, without public notice or consideration of its impacts on residents.

What’s at stake:
  • A more dangerous Adeline Street: We already risk our lives crossing Adeline. Now we must also dodge 100s of frantic pick-up drivers parking in the bike and traffic lanes, on the sidewalk, and in private driveways.
  • Loss of residential parking: Where will the 100+ staff and 1,000s of customers park? There is nowhere else but in front of our homes, especially on Lowell, 53rd, 54th, 55th, 56th Streets.
  • More traffic on our small side streets: Drivers using GPS will descend on the CloudKitchens from all directions—and there is no way to stop them.
  • Noise, exhaust, odors, and pests from delivery trucks, rooftop ventilation units, and on-site waste storage from 36 commercial kitchens.

We call on Oakland City Administrator Edward Reiskin to delay the CloudKitchens’ opening and limit the number food businesses and hours of operation until your office:

  1. Resolves all traffic, parking, bike, and pedestrian safety issues to the satisfaction of the community.
  2. Holds a public meeting to address the incompatibility issues between the business and the residents that are in breach of the HBX-1 zoning code.
  3. Ensures compliance by the business with building and nuisance codes.
