Reinstate Mick Parsons Immediately

Jackie Cecil, Head of HR, Kentucky Community and Technical College

Mick Parsons was unjustly and illegally terminated from his adjunct instructor position because of his high profile advocacy and activism to improve the working conditions of adjuncts in the college system and across the state.  Rather than simply telling him his services were no longer required -- which would have been a local decision -- he was dramatically and unceremoniously fired by the central office for an alleged FERPA violation that falls under the list of exceptions as listed in FERPA. This consequence is not listed anywhere in the institution's social media policy.

Moreover, KCTCS showed a clear lack of concern for faculty administrators and students by conducting this "firing" an hour and a half prior to a summer session class Parsons was scheduled to teach.

In addition to being fired, the central office -- in an unprecedented and wholly unjustifiable act -- banned Parsons from teaching at any KCTCS campus across the state. This seriously compromises his ability to earn a living and is nowhere listed as a possible consequence for the violation he is accused of committing.

Send KCTCS a message that they cannot silence activists by getting rid of them without legal or just cause.

Mr. Cecil:

Mick Parsons was unjustly and illegally terminated from his adjunct instructor position because of his high profile advocacy and activism to improve the working conditions of adjuncts in the college system and across the state. KCTCS showed a clear lack of concern for faculty administrators and students by conducting this "firing" an hour and a half prior to a summer session class Parsons was scheduled to teach.

In addition, the unprecedented banning Mr. Parsons from teaching at any KCTCS campus statewide is not only an illegal and aggressive act against his ability to support himself and his family, but it clearly demonstrates that your purpose in firing him was to silence him and keep him from continuing his advocacy and adjunct organizing efforts.

Mr. Cecil, you must reinstate Parsons to his previous position immediately ,without prejudice, and you must lift this ridiculous and undemocratic "banishment" immediately.
