Rent Relief Now

Governor Tim Walz

A huge percentage of renters live month to month, with little savings. Even with an eviction moratorium, bills will just pile up. With the corona virus crisis, rent relief is needed by many workers, the sooner the better. Waiting too long will make the problem worse.

After signing this petition please call the governor as well at 1-651-201-3400. We need generous rent relief:

  1. A simple, state-run program open to all renters in need.
  2. Actual payments to renters, not to landlords.
  3. No accumulated debt. This is a grant program. It is emergency financial assistance to a broad swath of the population. Unemployment insurance often is not enough to meet rent needs, if they even qualify.

Dear Governor Walz,

We appreciate your efforts to halt evictions and foreclosures and streamline the unemployment insurance process, but many Minnesotans will still come up short for rent over the next month, and they need relief now. Please support Representative Michael Howard's legislation on rent relief, and please explore opportunities for executive orders for relief during this health and financial emergency.
