Rep. Joe Barton: Hold a Town Hall!
Rep. Joe Barton
Rep. Joe Barton has been avoiding his constituents. After repeated pressure, he deliberately scheduled a first round of town halls in Frost and Milford, each with populations of fewer than 800 and far away from Tarrant county. His second round of town halls were held in Corsicana, Waxahachie, and Mansfield. These were scheduled on weekdays and during the workday. Announcements for each of these town halls came only several days before the events. His office cited "security concerns" as the reason for the short notice. Rep. Barton has avoided holding a town hall in Arlington, by far the most populated city in his district.
We must urge our Congressman to face his constituents--to hold additional town halls during times that working constituents are able to attend, and to give ample public notice for constituents to make plans to attend. These must include at least one town hall in Arlington.

Your previous town halls have been scheduled deliberately to minimize attendance so that you can avoid hearing what your constituents have to say. They have been scheduled without ample notice and have taken place either in small towns or during the workday.
I urge you to hold town halls in August throughout the district, including at least one in Arlington. I further urge you to hold these events during evening hours or on weekends to accommodate your working constituents and to publicize these events with ample time for your constituents to make plans to attend.
It is your job as our representative to listen to our concerns. As your constituent, I urge you to give us that opportunity.
