On February 16, 2021, Mark Williams, a fourth-grade teacher at the ECS Intermediate School, was notified by ECS CEO Jon McCann that he would be immediately suspended without pay for a period of at least 8 days, pending investigation, for unspecified insubordination. The letter of notification stated that the investigation could result in Mr. Williams’s termination.
We believe this action was retaliation against Mr. Williams for his advocacy for a safe and equitable reopening plan.
We, members of the ECS community, demand that ECS immediately reinstate Mr. Williams’s pay and return him to his students.
