Roger and Betty Gipson Deserve to be Treated with Respect!

Hugh Rider, Realty & Mortgage Co, and Owners Mark Gerb and Curtis Levy

Roger & Betty Gipson are a Native American mother and son who have lived in the same unit in Albany Park for decades, enduring harassment, illegal eviction attempts, and egregious maintenance neglect. They have continued to pay their reduced rent, which they are legally withholding because their property management company, Realty & Mortgage, has ignored their requests for legally protected repairs for years, including a bathroom filled with black mold. Roger suspects this is an attempt to drive them out of their longtime home. Roger & Betty both have several disabilities - Roger is partially blind, has a prosthetic leg, and kidney failure and Betty is a partially blind senior. Roger and Betty are on a fixed income and have two dogs, they can't just move easily or safely without the necessary resources. Recently, Realty and Mortgage Co., on behalf of the landlords Mark Gerb and Curtis Levy, has served several eviction notices to Roger and Betty, each one citing different reasons or different exit dates. This has caused much stress and fear around the possibility of being forced out of their home.

The way that Realty and Mortgage Co. has been managing the situation with Roger and Betty has been disrespectful and dehumanizing. These are longtime tenants who are vulnerable and need time and resources to be able to relocate. Instead of continuing to traumatize this family, sit down in good faith and negotiate a situation that both parties can be happy with.

As long as Roger and Betty are living in the unit, their repair requests should be addressed. This is a long-known issue that should have been fixed years ago.

I demand that you do the right thing, maintain the property respectfully, and come to the table to collaborate on a solution.
