Stevens Creek Boulevard is a vital corridor in Santa Clara County and it is in desperate need of a redesign. We, the undersigned, demand that the redesigned corridor:
-Be made safer for everyone to travel along and across it through including physically protected bike/mobility lanes, expanded sidewalks, protected intersections, and shorter crossing distances
-Be made more efficient, equitable, and climate-friendly by dedicating a lane in each direction to be for buses-only which would significantly improve bus speed, time, and reliability
While the current Drafted Plan that the Stevens Creek Steering Committee rightly recommends transit signal priority, curb bulbs, and protected bike lanes-- which would be a significant improvement, it falls dangerously short when it comes to street safety for crossing the road and for significantly improving bus service.
The plan for Stevens Creek Boulevard needs to go further and add in vital safety improvements for people crossing the street like pedestrian refuge islands and the much-needed transit improvement of a bus-only lane.
By including these common, affordable, and proven measures in the improvement plan, we can break from the status quo of a deadly, polluting, and inhospitable Stevens Creek Boulevard and make a corridor that works for everyone.
