Save St. James Community Square

St. James Community Square, a Non Profit Community Centre, is under threat of Sale and Potential Redevelopment.

With your support, we can save St. James Community Square and its irreplaceable educational, social service, cultural, and recreational programs provided at 3214 West 10th Avenue, Vancouver, BC, V6K-2L2.

St. James Community Square Society has been leasing and operating 3214 West 10th Avenue, Vancouver, B.C. as a community centre for 21 years.
The owner wishes to sell the property and has offered St. James Community Square Society the opportunity to purchase the site.
St. James is now in negotiation with the owner, pursuing that goal.
The Centre has many ongoing groups offering daycare; preschool; educational, recreational and cultural classes; support group meetings; and live cultural performances.
These add up to about 5,000 people registered in, or regularly attending, sessions one or more times per week.
There are also many other ad hoc and short term programmes; meetings; performances; and cultural, religious, and social events that take place at the site bringing the total number of user visits to 500,000 each year.

In order to make the purchase, SJCSS needs to work with other agencies, donors, foundations and levels of government to raise funds and create partnerships to achieve this goal.

To help show the level of public support for retaining SJCS as a community resource we are seeking:
  1. Signatures on our paper and online petitions.
  2. Donations for the purchase which are tax receiptable. These will be held in trust until a purchase is successfully accomplished. If unsuccessful, they will be returned. 
  3. Letters of support to be sent to St. James Community Square at 3214 West 10th Avenue, Vancouver, B.C., V6K2L2
  4.  Forward this petition and these requests to your networks.
