Politicians in both parties have pushed more and more standardized testing down the throats of classrooms to hold teachers accountable.

School closures are even tied to how well kids do on standardized tests, where some school are said to fail.

But standardized tests result in students spending less time in class learning. Moreover, standardized test scores are higher in wealthy schools than in poor ones which makes them just another way to punish poor kids and their teachers.

Standardized tests are no substitute for a good education and a good teacher. They should not be the benchmark for whether our schools fail or succeed.
