In a letter from the New York attorney general to the Federal Election Commission and the Justice Department, the attorney general wrote that the illegal use of the Trump Foundation “was willful and knowing” and it accuses Donald Trump and his three eldest children of using the foundation and its assets for political and businesses purposes.
The Trump Foundation allegedly used its non-profit funds to settle legal claims against the Trump Organization, to promote the candidacy of President Trump, to commission a $10,000 self-portrait of Donald Trump and more.
Other non-profits and their officials have been prosecuted for far less egregious crimes.
