Congress

LGBTQ+ rights have come a long way since the Stonewall Inn was raided 54 years ago, but we still have a long way to go.

Data for Progress polled voters and found:

  • Less than half of transgender adults feel comfortable being out in their community
  • LGBTQ+ voters felt higher levels of dissatisfaction with their mental health, standard of living, and household income
  • LGBTQ+ voters were also more likely to report struggling to pay essential bills

Elected officials must work to confront economic and health disparities, defend LGBTQ+ people against misguided political attacks, and implement intersectional policies that foster acceptance and connectedness.

The Equality Act has been proposed in previous sessions of Congress to ensure LGBTQ+ people are protected against discrimination. The 118th Congress needs to pass this legislation & stand with the LGBTQ+ community.
