A large majority of the staff of Capital City Public Charter School is seeking recognition of our union!

On Thursday, March 28th, 2024, Capital City teachers, staff, caregivers, and community members gathered to deliver a petition to the school's Board of Trustees. The petition details our request for voluntary recognition and our hopes for a strong collective bargaining agreement for our new union.

Update May 1st, 2024

Capital City Staff are gearing up to vote on the formation of our union! Tomorrow, on Thursday, May 2nd, over two-hundred staff head to the polls to make our voices heard.

We already know at least 65% of eligible staff plan to vote YES to forming a union at Capital City. To win our election we need 50% +1 “yes” votes.

What a powerful outpouring of support! Your signatures, encouragement, and support have uplifted our growing drive for fair representation at Capital City!

Unfortunately, Capital City’s Leadership Team and Board of Trustees have been far quieter and much less forthcoming in response to our request for voluntary recognition. So far they seem to have chosen the path of non-response instead of the open, creative engagement we are seeking.

Instead of standing with the values of the school and recognizing staff power, they sought legal representation from one of the most prominent union-busting law firms in the US.

It’s not too late for them to recognize our efforts voluntarily and join in true collaboration with us. We love our school, our students, and the many families, caregivers, and community members that make it a truly special place, and we are ready to make changes that will make it an even better place to work and learn!

¡Qué poderosa muestra de apoyo! ¡Sus firmas, aliento, y apoyo han impulsado nuestro creciente impulso por una representación justa en Capital City!

Desafortunadamente, el Equipo de Liderazgo y la Junta Directiva de Capital City han sido mucho más silenciosos y menos comunicativos en su respuesta a nuestra solicitud de reconocimiento voluntario. Hasta ahora parecen haber elegido el camino de la falta de respuesta en lugar del compromiso abierto y creativo que buscamos.

Amamos nuestra escuela, nuestros estudiantes y las muchas familias, cuidadores y miembros de la comunidad que la convierten en un lugar verdaderamente especial, ¡y estamos listos para realizar cambios que la convertirán en un lugar aún mejor para trabajar y aprender!
