Sign the petition: Demand Amazon reinstate the workers it fired for speaking out against unsafe warehouse conditions
Amazon
Throughout the COVID-19 crisis, Amazon has forced thousands of “essential” employees to work without comprehensive safety protocols. Workers have organized at warehouses and Whole Foods stores across the country to push back against the negligent company.
At least four warehouse workers who spoke out about these unsafe working conditions have been fired.
Chris Smalls, who worked for Amazon for five years, was fired and disparaged by the company shortly after organizing a work stoppage at a Staten Island warehouse calling for protective gear and hazard pay.
Amazon has also fired Bashir Mohamed, a warehouse worker in Minnesota, and Emily Cunningham and Maren Costa, two tech workers in Seattle. All of them spoke against Amazon’s working conditions.
These firings should outrage all of us. Instead of protecting worker safety, Amazon has used this pandemic to capitalize on its profit goals.
Amazon also refuses to offer adequate paid sick leave for the vast majority of its workers, putting them and their families at further risk if they do get sick in these unsafe facilities. Over 100 facilities have already had a worker test positive for COVID-19.
Amazon should not punish workers asking for safer conditions during an unprecedented public health crisis. The company has an obligation to protect all of its employees and reinstate the brave individuals who were unjustly terminated.
We must hold Amazon accountable for endangering thousands of workers and firing those who speak out.

Reinstate Chris Smalls, Bashir Mohamed, Emily Cunningham, and Maren Costa, and all other workers who were fired for asking for stronger health and safety protections during this public health crisis.
