In conjunction with Senator Bernie Sanders' recent senate bill, Reps. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Darren Soto introduced the first-ever bill that would ban fracking nationwide and finds that Congress must initiate a just transition for the working families in the fracking industry.

Ocasio-Cortez, echoing climate justice activists and scientists have said for decades, knows that the “science is clear: fracking is a leading contributor to our climate emergency. It is destroying our land. It is destroying our water and it is wreaking havoc on our communities' health.”

For years the oil and gas industry has widely repeated the lie that fracking is “safe,” yet reports prove the opposite. Scientists and researchers have found that Black community members are more likely to live near fracking wells and the health impacts for pregnant people and their children living near these wells are staggering.

Our federal lawmakers must fulfill their oath to their constituents by making certain that the oil and gas industry can’t exploit our most vulnerable communities any longer.

For years the oil and gas industry has widely repeated the lie that fracking is “safe,” yet reports prove the opposite. There is no denying that fracking poisons our water and sickens our communities, especially low-income communities, communities of color, and indigenous communities. Not only would the Ban Fracking Act stop all fracking, it would also initiate a just transition for the working families in the industry.

Fracking is a leading contributor to our climate emergency. It is destroying our land. It is destroying our water and it is wreaking havoc on our communities' health. I strongly encourage you to support the Ban Fracking Act so fracking stops NOW.
