Federal immigration authorities have routinely harassed people of color under the guise of checking their immigration status, even going so far as to use extra-legal measures in their intrusive stops and searches.

Most recently, a viral video showed agents questioning and detaining a black woman of Caribbean descent in Florida—by boarding a Greyhound bus.

Four Democratic senators have introduced legislation that would require Immigration & Customs Enforcement (ICE) and Customs & Border Protection (CBP) agents to "document every instance when they stop, search or interrogate people," and then report it to Congress.

The bill doesn’t have much of a chance of passing a Republican Congress, but it does provide a blueprint going forward for Democrats should they regain a majority and eventually the White House. What it also does is shed sunlight on the horrific abuses coming from Trump’s unleashed mass deportation agents.
