Sign the petition: Put Harriet Tubman on the $20 Bill

Treasury Secretary Steve Mnuchin

For years, there has been a grassroots movement to replace Andrew Jackson on the $20 bill with Harriet Tubman—which got support from the Obama Administration and members of Congress.

Now that it has been 100 years since the Nineteenth Amendment granted women the right to vote, it is even more fitting and appropriate to do so.

But in 2017, Donald Trump's Treasury Secretary Steve Mnuchin said he would not commit to the Obama administration’s pledge to replace Andrew Jackson with Harriet Tubman on the $20 bill.

When reminded that there was a “cultural aspect” of the decision to replace Jackson, Mnuchin said that “people have been on the bills for a long time.”

On May 21, 2019, when pressed by a congressional committee, Mnuchin said there were no plans to produce a Harriet Tubman $20 bill this coming year.

He added, “The primary reason we have looked at redesigning the currency is for counterfeiting issues.” In fact, there are no plans for a redesign even possibly happening until 2028. The $10 bill and the $50 bill will be redesigned first, according to Mnuchin.

Andrew Jackson committed genocide against thousands of Native Americans — he has no place on our currency.
