Sign the petition: Stop intentionally denying aid to Puerto Rico in its time of need. Lift the Jones Act

Congress

UPDATE as of September 28, 2017: Trump has now temporarily lifted the Jones Act. We're calling this one a victory!

*****

Millions of people in Puerto Rico are struggling without power, drinking water, food, or medical attention — and Trump is denying an action that could provide major relief to the island.

Trump is refusing to lift the Jones Act, which requires that material shipped from one part of the United States to another only be carried on ships that are registered in the US. Because most ships around Puerto Rico are not US ships, only a small fraction of them can deliver supplies with the Jones Act still in place.

If Trump lifted the Jones Act, ships could deliver desperately needed water, food, medicine, and fuel to Puerto Rico. By not waiving it, Trump is making this massive humanitarian crisis even worse.

We cannot allow Trump to get away with refusing to lift the Jones Act. Congress must immediately step in and lift the Jones Act and allow aid to reach Puerto Rico.

Sign now to tell Congress to lift the Jones Act.
