Sign the petition to Congress: Permanently reinstate Temporary Protected Status for Nicaraguan immigrants

U.S. Congress

The Trump administration’s racist, anti-immigrant policies continue: this week, the Department of Homeland Security ended Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for 2,500 Nicaraguan recipients.

What’s more, the State Department recommended that TPS also be rescinded for recipients from Honduras, El Salvador, and Haiti, meaning that 300,000 people currently living legally in the United States would be forced to leave or legalize their status by 2019.

As immigrant rights leader Frank Sharry said, “this is what a mass deportation strategy looks like” — but apparently for the Trump administration, it’s not enough. In a disgusting show of racism, White House Chief of Staff John Kelly had the gall to complain that the DHS wasn’t deporting TPS recipients quickly enough.

The DHS could put a stop to this. Every time they revoke protections for another TPS recipient, they are complicit in the Trump’s violent crusade against immigrants.

Congress must take action to protect TPS Nicaraguan recipients — and House Democrats have already introduced the American Promise Act to do just that. With more decisions about protections for Hondurans, Salvadorans, and Haitians soon to be announced, Congress must act swiftly to permanently protect all TPS recipients.

I am horrified the Trump administration ended protections for 2,500 Nicaraguan immigrants, and are now considering ending protections for almost 300,000 other TPS recipients from Honduras, El Salvador, and Haiti. These racist, anti-immigrant policies must be stopped. Please act quickly to permanently reinstate Temporary Protected Status for ALL recipients under attack by the Trump administration.
