Senate Democrats stayed up all night to speak against Betsy DeVos' nomination as Secretary of Education—taking advantage of Senate rules that allow up to 30 hours of debate.

For the very first time in American history, a vice president had to vote in the Senate to break a tie to confirm a Cabinet nominee. This was politically humiliating for Trump and Republicans.

Republicans own Betsy DeVos and all her works. They tried to hide her from the public, burying her speedy confirmation hearing in the evening. They blew off massive numbers of their constituents who let them know she was unacceptable.

Democrats may not block many Trump nominees, but if they fight against every single one the way they fought against DeVos, then they will do real political damage to Republicans and improve their standing with the American people.
