And enough Democrats are letting this happen. On March 6, the U.S. Senate voted 67-32 to advance debate on the bill—because 17 Democrats defected to join all Republicans.
As Senate Minority Leader, Chuck Schumer (D-NY) can use his power to keep Democrats in line. But while he nominally opposes the legislation, he has not used his influence to block it.
