Sign the petition: Trump’s budget slashes Medicare and controls food stamps

Congress and the Trump administration

Trump just released his budget for 2019… and it’s as bad as you’d expect.

It proposes cutting Medicare by a whopping $237 billion in one year—and would end up cutting $554 billion over the next ten years. The Trump administration claims this wouldn’t include any cuts to coverage and benefits, but rather reductions in payments to Medicare providers and facilities. In either case, it’s a preposterous proposal.

As if cutting Medicare was bad enough, Trump’s budget also seeks to "reform" food stamps by controlling what people can eat. Instead of allowing food stamp recipients to choose what they buy, households would be sent a portion of their benefits in a USDA Foods package filled with government-chosen food.

This budget proposal is simply not okay. We need more protections and resources for low-income, disabled, and elderly people—not less.
