Sign the Petition: Welcome PM Trudeau and Hold Him to His Promises

PM Justin Trudeau and the Liberal Party

Together, we are going to hold PM-elect Trudeau and the new Liberal majority to the promises they made during this campaign. Sign this petition welcoming PM-elect Trudeau and holding him to his promises.

It’s been a tough four years of unprecedented attacks against civil society in Canada: From the politically-motivated audits of charities, to the repeal of The Clean Water Act, to the use of taxpayer money to spy on pipeline opponents. Not only did we survive, we came out of all of it stronger and more organized than ever.

Rather than shrink and cower, our community stood up and made dangerous energy projects and the anti-Democratic actions of this government political liabilities that resulted in the loss of seats and social license for big oil and their friends last night.

Imagine what we can achieve together with a new government that knows what this movement is capable of.

On behalf of ForestEthics Advocacy, congratulations on your election and new majority. We look forward to entering this new era for the environment and for democracy in Canada. You carry with you much hope for a healthy and sustainable future for this country.

The promises you made during the election to restore basic measures of environmental protection and social justice are critical; we implore you to prioritize the following immediately:

- Respect the rights and decision making of First Nations and local communities and immediately reject the Northern Gateway Pipeline project(1)
- Conduct an immediate, public review of Canada’s environmental assessment process, including the NEB and Kinder Morgan pipeline project approval processes(2)
- Discontinue the dangerous, new oil-by-rail projects that threaten the health and safety of 5.1 million Canadians (3)
- Institute a moratorium on crude oil tanker traffic on British Columbia’s North Coast (4)
- Phase out fossil fuel industry subsidies (5)

In the spirit of positive change and collaboration, we look forward to working together for a better future.

Signed,

ForestEthics Advocacy and the undersigned
