Sign to tell Congress: Impeach Trump

Current and incoming members of Congress

After 8 years, Democrats finally have control again in the U.S. House of Representatives, the government body that can start proceedings to impeach the president.

And it’s time to begin that process to impeach Trump.

Add your name to tell current members of Congress, as well as all incoming junior Congresspeople who’ll be in office in January 2019: Begin investigations and impeachment proceedings immediately.

Why should we impeach Trump?

Because he thinks he’s above the law. He just fired Jeff Sessions and appointed his crony Matt Whitaker to oversee Robert Mueller’s investigation into Trump’s own campaign. This, like the firing of James Comey, is very likely obstruction of justice and is a huge threat to our democracy.

Our country’s founders wanted democratic leaders, not kings -- so they set up important checks in order to hold U.S. presidents accountable. They agreed that presidents could be impeached if they engage in the following activities: treason, bribery, and “other high crimes and misdemeanors.”

Many constitutional experts agree that Trump has committed multiple, well-documented impeachable offenses as a candidate and as president. These include abusing his pardon power, violating emoluments clauses, undermining the freedom of the press, discriminating against people based on their race, ethnicity, and religion, and obstructing justice.

Every day he’s in office, Trump abuses his power in frightening ways and endangers people’s lives and the planet.

We can’t allow this. By not demanding impeachment, members of Congress -- including Democrats -- have been normalizing and accepting his behavior, and paving the way for dangerous precedents. It’s our duty as Americans to defend our democracy.

So we need to demonstrate a groundswell of support for impeaching Trump. When newly elected Democratic Representatives are sworn into the House in January 2019, they must be ready to start investigations and impeachment proceedings immediately.

Already, public will to impeach the president is at an all-time high, close to when Nixon was about to resign at the end of the Watergate scandal. Polls show that around 50% of the American public (and 75% of Democrats) want Trump impeached. Let’s make it happen.

Every day he’s in office, Trump abuses his power in frightening ways, endangering people’s lives and the planet. As soon as the new Congress is sworn in, it is time to immediately begin investigations into obstruction of justice, abuse of his pardon power and more, and to begin impeachment proceedings. We must not normalize Trump’s dangerous behavior, nor pave the way for dangerous precedents. Instead we must place important checks on his illegal actions and defend our democracy.
