SMCCCD Part-Time Faculty Pay Parity Petition

San Mateo County Community College District Board of Trustees

San Mateo Community College District: Ensure equity at work for part-time faculty now!

California’s 114 community colleges will become increasingly essential to helping workers navigate the new economy following the COVID-19 crisis, preparing students for university or the workforce during the anticipated recession.

As millions face unemployment, California community colleges, the backbone of workforce training, will be the main engines of social and economic mobility for those most impacted by the pandemic.

Community colleges will also remain essential for training the frontline healthcare workers that we will need to successfully emerge from the pandemic.

Tell San Mateo Community College District Administrators & Board: Invest in Faculty!

The faculty in our District are traveling the extra mile for our students, and will continue to support them and their families through recovery. Faculty will continue to put the future of our students first in the weeks, months and years ahead.

The harsh reality? Around 70% of faculty at SMCCD are temporary part-time workers who experience limited job security, minimal benefits, and a pervasive lack of institutional support, earning significantly less than their full time counterparts doing equivalent work.

What is our Administration doing to address this inequality? They’ve taken the low road. In stark contrast to other Bay Area college districts, for more than a year, our SMCCD administrators have refused to engage in discussions about what equality at work could and should look like for part-time faculty.

Are you ready to stand with the part-time faculty who support and teach our students?

We need 500 signatures by Weds. May 13!  Please sign this petition now.
