Staples: Bring Back Sacked Workers

Staples Australia CEO Darren Fullerton

Multi-billion dollar company Staples sacked 47 owner drivers for daring to speak out against disgustingly low rates and intimidation by management. Staples is refusing to give contracts back to 8 workplace leaders, and has given the rest reduced rates, conditions, and rights.
Staples has imported union-busting methods from their home in the US in order to crush any attempt by drivers to get a fair and safe rate at work.

We believe in a fair go in Australia, and that means the right to a safe living wage, and the right to organise as workers. Whether it’s Staples sacking owner-drivers or PM Turnbull abolishing the road safety watchdog, the TWU will fight for transport workers and their rights.

Sign this petition to send the Staples Australia CEO Darren Fullerton a message that sacking workers because they speak up about their workplace rights is not how we do things in Australia.

KEY FACTS
1. Staples made $5.7 billion income last year
2. Staples owner-drivers make as little as $8/hour
3. This is despite it costing almost $130,000 to get into the business
4. Out of 47 workers sacked, 8 have been refused their contracts back, and 39 have been put back on inferior contracts

As a multi-billion dollar company, we find it disgusting that Staples sacked 47 owner drivers, only to then put back 39 on reduced rates and conditions while refusing to reengage 8 others who are still left without work.

As Australians, we reject the US model of union busting and keeping wages low.

We demand that Staples immediately:

1. Give every owner-driver their contract back,
2. Stop the financial squeeze on owner-drivers by giving them fair and safe rates, and
3. Allow owner-drivers to organise and protect their rights.
