Stop FPL's Runaway Bill Increases

Gov. Rick Scott & the Florida State Legislature

Tell Rick Scott and the Florida legislature to hold the Public Service Commission accountable and to reject FPL's request to increase customer rates $1.3 billion – an increase of 23 percent – over three years. It comes as no surprise that, once again, FPL is looking to increase their shareholder profits on the backs of ratepayers.

FPL has failed to offer a satisfactory solution to their Turkey Point plant's contamination of Biscayne Bay. The utility monopoly's executives and shareholders should not be rewarded for their mismanagement. The same goes for FPL lobbyist and Senator Miguel Diaz de la Portilla – who lobbied for FPL’s last rate increase in 2012 – who has been disturbingly silent on both the rate hike request and the utility's Turkey Point problem.

Groups including the AARP, Sierra Club, U.S. Military, Walmart, the South Florida Hospital and Healthcare Association, the Florida Retail Federation and the Florida Industrial Power Users Group all oppose this request. In the interest of protecting consumers and holding FPL accountable for their actions, the Public Service Commission should do the same and reject FPL's irresponsible request to unnecessarily charge customers more.
