The health and economic crisis caused by COVID-19 has turned our homes into sanctuaries for our health, safety, and the safety of our community. Our homes are the most critical part of our healthcare infrastructure and our shared well-being depends on them. We must not be moved!

All of us – ALL OF US – deserve to have shelter from the storm, a permanent home, and the food, medicine and healthcare we need to be healthy.   None of us should have to choose between putting food on the table and their housing.

The “Stay at Home” order will end. The crisis for families of color and low-income and working families will not. Even before the crisis, many of us were living paycheck to paycheck. With the loss of income, there is no way for most Minnesotans to come up with back rent or back mortgage payments that went unpaid during the crisis. Basic common sense dictates that because we won’t be getting back pay, we have no way to pay back housing payments. It will be hard enough to get back on our feet, impossible if we are held back and buried by new debt.

Our lives and our families are more important than Mortgages and payments on debt. Mortgages can easily be restructured to allow people the space to live and breathe. The Federal government has already done it for single family homeowners, and Minnesota has done it before to protect what’s most important. Renters need the same protections that are offered to homeowners.

We are ready to take emergency action to ensure our families can survive by keeping them housed. Stand with us!
