Tenants on Western Ave and Mall St in Lynn are fighting enormous rent increases. The new landlords from Marblehead tried to impose huge rent increases of up to $900/month immediately after buying the property. The residents joined with Lynn United for Change to form a tenant union.

After walking out of the first negotiation, the landlords have said they will consider a compromise offer of more gradual increases from the tenants. Sign here to tell the landlords that our community wants them to agree to the compromise and keep the tenants in their homes!  [Update: the tenants proposed a compromise that included big rent increases averaging 17% in the 1st year with smaller increases following years. The landlords rejected the tenants' proposal and said they will start evictions. It's now even more important to show we will stand with our neighbors as they resist displacement!]

We do not want the tenants on Western Ave and Mall St to be pushed out of their homes by the drastic rent increases you proposed. We call on you to agree to the gradual increases proposed by the tenant union so that our neighbors can remain in this community.

These tenants have strong connections to the area. Children in these households go to nearby public schools and several of the tenants have jobs nearby. Some have lived in the building for over a decade.

Displacing these residents from their homes would have terrible consequences for the tenants and it would also hurt the community. We do not want our neighbors to be separated from their neighborhood and their jobs. We do not want the education of their children to be disrupted. We are especially concerned about how displacement would hurt the tenants with health problems and disabilities.

Please show you are a responsible landlord and agree to the tenant union's compromise proposal that keeps these tenants in their homes.
