The Mountain Valley Pipeline has been polluting Virginia and West Virginia waterways where there are endangered species for over two years. At the beginning of the project, MVP used a flawed stormwater analysis, as the foundation for their erosion and sediment control plans. There have been hundreds of reports with documentation proving the failure of MVP's erosion and sediment controls causing pollution of the waterways.
The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service have confirmed there are two endangered fish (the Roanoke logperch and the Candy Darter) that may be adversely affected by the MVP. The USFWS also specified the Candy Darter as endangered with proposed critical habitat.
The government must require MVP to commission a new stormwater analysis and to revise their erosion and sediment control plans in order to stop polluting our water. The FERC, VADEQ and WVDEP must issue a stop work instruction on any land disturbing activity with heavy machinery in the MVP corridor until they approve the new erosion and sediment control plans. The stop work instruction should include moving logs or land disturbing preparation work.
