Stop Oxfordshire’s ‘road to ruin’

Oxfordshire County Council

Oxfordshire County Council (OCC) is proposing to build a new 9 mile road across south Oxfordshire from the A34 at Milton through to the A415 near Clifton Hampden and the B4015 to take traffic to the A4074 (the Oxford – Reading road).

This is a major development which will impact all villages along its route. Five parish councils are objecting to the plan as are BBOWT, our county Wildlife Trust.

This costly road (currently over £290M) is likely to generate more traffic and merely shift congestion from one site to another. It will increase carbon emissions at a time when we must be cutting them rapidly. It will slice through our countryside and involve a major new bridge over the Thames.

Building this road will increase pressure for another road connecting this one to the M40 – the likely route of the abandoned Expressway plan. This may be an ‘Expressway by stealth’. For more information see:https://www.oxfoe.co.uk/notonewroads/

We call on Oxfordshire County Council to withdraw and cancel the ‘HIF1’ south Oxfordshire road scheme and develop transport plans that meet local needs in a less destructive and polluting manner.
