Stop the GOP’s Midwest Power Grab

State lawmakers

In our democracy, voters should have the final say -- not self-interested, partisan politicians.

But after losing elections in states across the Midwest, Republican lawmakers are pushing a dangerous new tactic: abusing their power to overrule our votes.

In states like Wisconsin, Michigan, and Ohio, gerrymandered legislative majorities are responding to election losses by calling last-minute legislative sessions to push through measures to enhance their own power. Their message is always the same: “If we can’t win in a democracy, we’ll break democracy to get our way.”

That’s why, in all of these states, Common Cause’s action teams are organizing to stop these power grabs in their tracks -- and they’re counting on a nationwide outcry to back them up. Add your name to condemn this partisan attack on our democracy -- and tell politicians everywhere to respect the will of voters.

Voters should have the final say in our democracy. But right now, Republicans in states across the Midwest, like Wisconsin and Michigan, are trying to overrule voters and rig the system in their favor.

Our votes and our voices matter. We can’t let voters be silenced anywhere -- or allow this contempt for the fundamental principles of our democracy to spread.
