Straw Free Chester

Cheshire West & Chester Council & Chester Businesses

Chester & District Friends of the Earth are supporting the campaign started by Dr Christian Dunn - Straw Free Chester, the campaign to make Chester the UK's first plastic straw free city.

It's estimated that Chester uses 300,000 straws a day? These straws can take hundreds of years to break down and many of them find their way to our seas and oceans. 12 million tons of straws and other types of plastic waste enter the oceans every year, with plastic waste causing the death of up to 1,000,000 seabirds, 100,000 marine mammals and countless fish every year.

We aim for:

For businesses and organisations in Chester to only give out a plastic drinking straw if a customer specifically asks for one

For every customer in Chester to only ask for a drinking straw if they really need one.

For everyone in Chester to consider using paper or reusable drinking straws

Sign our petition today and add your voice to those supporting the campaign to make Chester Straw Free.
