The newsroom staff of the Los Angeles Times, represented by Media Guild of the West (NewsGuild-CWA 39213), has been bargaining a new union contract for more than 18 months. In that time, the company has laid off more than 25% of the newsroom’s journalists, gutting reporting, digital, audience, audio, video, photo and editing teams.

Still other staff members have left for jobs at publications with better pay and more stability.

The Times, rather than offer raises that keep pace with inflation, has proposed a sales commission-style “cash-for-clicks” scheme that could derail the newspaper’s emphasis on covering diverse communities and demanding accountability from powerful institutions — stories that readers rely on. Los Angeles is a world-class city that deserves a thriving newspaper. Please sign this petition to tell L.A. Times management how much you value The Times and the journalists who produce it.

I am writing to express my support for the Los Angeles Times Guild. Southern California needs the L.A. Times, and there is no L.A. Times without its journalists. I urge you to reach an agreement that honors their important work.
