Support New Homes at 469 Stevenson Street!

San Francisco Board of Supervisors

469 Stevenson is scheduled to back in front of SF Planning on 4/20! After the City's infamous stonewalling of this project got the attention of the California Department of Housing and Community Development (HCD) and Governor Newsom, it's time to finally get this project approved.

469 Stevenson will bring 495 well-designed, transit-oriented new homes in the place of a parking lot. It's a slam dunk, and it's important to show up again, for housing. The Housing Action Coalition, SF YIMBY and GrowSF are proud to support this ambitious and desparately needed housing project in downtown San Francisco.

Some of the project's many highlights include:

1. Transit-rich location. The project is in very close proximity to public transportation including the Powell Street BART station, MUNI, and several bus lines.

2. Five-minute walking distance to thousands of jobs located in central SOMA, Civic Center, the Financial District, and Union Square.

3. Hundreds of much-needed new homes. The project will create 495 new homes, and is presently targeting an affordable housing package of 24% (or 118 units), 73 of which would be on-site. 469 Stevenson is currently the largest state density project in SF. And its eight five-bedroom homes will be able to serve more families and encourage co-living.

4. Environmentally-friendly features including LEED Silver certification, renewable energy, and 227 bicycle parking spots.

5. Community-friendly amenities including approximately 4,000 feet of community-oriented retail space, landscaping/greenscaping on Stevenson and Jessie Streets, and improved sidewalk and hardscape infrastructure.

6. Repurposing of large surface parking lot. Developing an existing surface parking lot means there is no displacement and an opportunity to eliminate a blighted parking lot in very dense area.

I'm writing to voice my support for an important new project that would transform a current parking lot into 495 well-designed, transit-oriented new homes located at 469 Stevenson Street in downtown San Francisco. I urge you to approve this project because of its numerous communities benefits, including:

1. Close proximity to public transportation including the Powell Street BART station, MUNI, and several bus lines.

2. Five-minute walking distance to thousands of jobs located in central SOMA, Civic Center, and Union Square.

3. Hundreds of much-needed new homes. By creating 495 new homes, 94 of which are below market rate, this is currently the largest state density project in the city. And its eight five-bedroom homes will be able to serve more families and encourage co-living.

4. Environmentally-friendly features including LEED Silver certification, renewable energy, and 227 bicycle parking spots.

5. Community-friendly amenities including approximately 4,000 feet of community space, active ground floor community space for local businesses, and improved sidewalk infrastructure.

For these and many other reasons, please approve these new homes without delay so that more people can call downtown San Francisco home.
