Support Our 2025 Kaiser Bargaining Platform and Demands for a Common Issues Table

Kaiser Northwest

We know that when the more workers come together to speak about common issues the more we are able to make lasting change. That is why we are sharing this year's bargaining platform as well as demanding a "common issues" table so that all of our six Kaiser bargaining units can negotiate with management about local issues that affect all of us. We want to let Wendy Watson, President of Kaiser Northwest, know that we support our bargaining platform and the demands for a common issues table to address the needs of our members. Please add your name if you support our bargaining platform and our demands for a common table.

GREAT CARE CAN’T WAIT: OFNHP 2025 BARGAINING PLATFORM

Kaiser has lost sight of what made it the best place to work and receive care. We are coming together to demand contracts that restore and elevate our professions, protect our patients, and ensure the future of quality healthcare—because Great Care Can’t Wait.

Our patients and communities deserve the highest standard of care—but that is only possible when frontline healthcare professionals have strong contracts that provide the respect, competitive pay, safe workplaces, career growth, and real partnership we need to do our jobs effectively.

We stand united in demanding:
✅ Safe staffing and patient access—because healthcare delays cost lives.
✅ Fair wages and benefits—to recruit and retain the best professionals.
✅ Workplace protections—because healthcare workers deserve safety and respect.
✅ Career development opportunities—to ensure healthcare’s future.
✅ A real partnership—where frontline workers have a voice in decisions impacting care.

Improving Patient Access
Patients deserve timely, quality care, and healthcare professionals must have the staffing and support to provide it.
•Hold Kaiser accountable for safe staffing levels—every shift, every unit, every facility.
•Ensure backfilling of positions when staff are on paid leave or taking meal and rest breaks.
•Protect professional practice—healthcare workers must be led by healthcare professionals.

Valuing Health Professionals
We cannot provide the best care if our healthcare professionals are underpaid, overworked, and undervalued.
•Expand and standardize differentials to recruit and retain high-quality professionals.
•Ensure full access to accrued time off—no more barriers.
•Raise vacation carryover caps so earned time remains your time.
•Improve cash-out policies to provide financial flexibility.
•Expand specialty certification pay to recognize expertise.
•Strengthen family leave and bereavement policies to align with state laws and best practices.
•Stop shortchanging us – fix the payroll system
•Provide flexible scheduling options that promote well-being and work-life balance.
•Ensure AI supports—not replaces—healthcare professionals.

Expanding Opportunities for Professional Growth
Investing in our workforce ensures high-quality care today and a strong healthcare system for the future.
•Remove barriers to accessing professional development benefits.
•Increase education leave and funding for continued learning.
•Expand tuition reimbursement and include student debt relief to retain top talent.
•Standardize and expand career ladders across all classifications to create real pathways for advancement and appreciation.

Ensuring Safe Working Conditions
Healthcare professionals deserve workplaces that are safe, just, and supportive.
•Enforce a Just Culture—no retaliation for reporting patient safety concerns.
•Strengthen protections against workplace violence—every worker deserves to feel safe on the job.
•Hold Kaiser accountable for real DEIA initiatives that improve equity and inclusion.
•Protect and support immigrant workers and the diverse communities we serve.

Revitalizing Partnership
A real labor-management partnership means frontline workers have a seat at the table – all the time, not just when convenient.
•Guarantee appropriate LMP time for steward councils and labor-management work.
•Ensure employees retain benefits while on release for union-related advocacy.
•Strengthen and enforce the Issue Resolution/Corrective Action framework to hold management accountable.
•Standardize team lead selection for fairness and transparency.

Great Care Can’t Wait—Our Patients and Our Professions Deserve Better.
We stand united in demanding a contract that values, protects, and empowers frontline healthcare professionals.
✔ Great for patients.
✔ Great for healthcare professionals.
✔ Great for Kaiser’s future.

Common Issues Table
We also demand a Common Issues Table so that our units can collaborate on solving common issues affecting all of our local bargaining units. This is the best way to confront frequent issues by ensuring that the widest representative sample of our membership is leading the way in developing comprehensive solutions.
