Support Iowa Public Libraries!

Republican Lawmakers

After banning books last year, Iowa GOP lawmakers are working on two bills this year that threaten librarians and strip funding from public libraries.

House File 521 makes librarians subject to a serious misdemeanor, punishable by a fine and up to one year in jail, if a child checks out a book that a parent considers inappropriate or "obscene".

House File 880 would deny eligibility for state funding for public libraries that are members of any non-profit organization that oppose book bans or advocate for public libraries, such as the American Library Association or the Iowa Library Association.

These attacks on public libraries are just the latest attempt by GOP leaders to strip away more freedoms from Iowans.

Help us tell Republican lawmakers that Iowans support our public libraries by signing the petition below!
