Support the Camden NAACP's Right to Operate and Organize

Richard Smith, President of the NJ NAACP and Anson Asaka, Assistant General Council, National NAACP Office

Did you know that Camden City and the surrounding areas lack an official branch of the NAACP? In 2021, their Camden NAACP's charter was revoked after an anonymous complaint was made. According to NAACP bylaws, an investigation should have occurred within six months but more than a year later, there has been no clarity or answers provided despite calls, letters and emails from Camden NAACP members. The Camden NAACP lacks a charter to officially operate and organize. This is a grave loss to Camden City, an economically disadvantaged community that faces a host of social, political and environmental challenges. Camden needs all the advocates it can get!

Please add your name to send a message to NJ NAACP President Richard Smith, showing your support for the Camden NAACP members who want to see their branch reinstated so they can get back to the important work of community organizing.

As a member of a grassroots community organization, South Jersey Progressive Democrats, I believe it is vitally important for citizens to come together to advance important issues and solve local problems.

For well over a year , the Camden NAACP has been without an official charter and has been unable to organize. Camden NAACP members want answers about the future of their branch. I support them in that request and want to see them operational again.

Our organization, South Jersey Progressive Democrats, began in Camden County and over the years, South Jersey Progressive Democrats and the Camden NAACP have stood together on various causes that impact the lives of those in Camden City and County. I want to see our allies once again able to do the essential grassroots work they are so eager to do!

Please take action to reinstate Camden NAACP Branch, Unit 2080!
