TAKE ACTION FOR HUMAN RIGHTS URGENT: RELEASE MAHMOUD KHALIL!
U.S. Congress
Mahmoud is a lawful permanent resident. He was exercising his right to peacefully protest. He has not been charged with a crime.
Mahmoud was targeted for his role in student protests at Columbia last year, and his arrest comes on the heels of the State Department’s announcement that it plans to revoke the visas or green cards and deport students affiliated with pro-Palestine protests.
ICE is holding him in a notoriously cruel detention facility in Louisiana and informed him that they have "revoked" his green card. No one should be ripped away from their family and sent to detention for exercising their right to peacefully protest — and no one should be deported for speaking out for human rights.
Demand action for Mahmoud: Contact your members of Congress to urge them to ensure that the Trump administration upholds Mahmoud Khalil’s right to due process, and release him from detention immediately to be reunited with his wife.
Note: If you are not a U.S. citizen, for your own security, please do not provide your real name.

I am writing as a constituent and a concerned human rights supporter with Amnesty International.
On the evening of March 8th, Department of Homeland Security (DHS) agents stopped Mahmoud Khalil, a Palestinian student activist and recent graduate student at Columbia University, as he was walking home from an Iftar celebration with his 8-months pregnant wife and unlawfully arrested and detained him.
Mahmoud Khalil is a legal permanent resident and was informed by federal officials that his green card was being revoked.
No one should be ripped away from their family and sent to detention just for engaging in protests, and no one should be deported for speaking out for human rights.
Mahmoud Khalil has not been charged with a crime. He should be released immediately. I implore you to leverage your power to ensure that the Trump administration respect Mr. Khalil’s human rights, including his right to due process, and free him from ICE custody so he can return to his home in New York with his family.
Mr. Khalil’s arrest and detention is the latest attack on human rights by the Trump administration.
Freedom of expression and peaceful assembly are human rights, not deportable offenses.
The U.S. government must release Mahmoud Khalil immediately. Additionally, colleges and universities must take steps to protect their immigrant students and staff from unlawful ICE enforcement and ensure that the human rights of all of their students and faculty to protest in support of Palestinian rights and other issues are respected and protected.
I am watching your actions on this matter.
