TAKE ACTION: STOP SPECIAL INTERESTS FROM SUBSIDIZING LUXURIOUS LIFESTYLES OF MEMBERS OF CONGRESS

Federal Election Commission

In our newest report, “Leadership PACs, Inc.,” Issue One dives into more than $130 million in special interest money contributed to Leadership PACs, revealing how special interest money ― which largely flies below the radar ― is undermining the American people’s voice in Washington.

Leadership PACs were intended as committees that allow elected officials to donate to and support their colleagues. But Issue One research shows that these PACs are often being used (legally) as personal slush funds for candidates.

Since January 2017, 35 PACs have contributed at least $500,000 each to Leadership PACs operated by sitting members of Congress. Of those, four have contributed more than $1,000,000: Honeywell, UPS, AT&T and Northrop Grumman ― buying influence and bankrolling luxurious lifestyles of members of Congress.

Take action today to demand the Federal Election Commission ban “personal use” of Leadership PAC funds and help stop the practice of special interests buying influence over our elected officials.

Special interests, including household names such as Honeywell, UPS and AT&T, are playing both sides of the aisle, buying access and influencing legislation. Through contributions to little-known Leadership PACs, they’re effectively paying for the luxurious lifestyles of members of Congress. We demand that the FEC ban “personal use” of Leadership PAC funds and help stop the practice of special interests buying influence over our elected officials.
