Tell Amazon: Stop Endangering Our Elections

Amazon

Amazon is quietly taking over the United States Election system.

More than 40 states and both major political parties use one or more of Amazon’s election services including running election websites, storing voter registration information, ballot data and helping to provide live results on election night.

If that’s not scary enough, Reuters reported that voter information stored on Amazon’s cloud was compromised on three separate occasions including a database with nearly every registered American that was exposed to the internet for 12 days.

Amazon’s response? They blamed the state and county employees working at government offices. Amazon’s failure to be transparent about these potential security gaps and the actions taken to remedy them puts our elections and democracy at risk.

The threat is enormous. In using a single system to service elections in over 40 states any hacks and/or insider data leaks won’t be limited to that single county or state but will impact the entire country.

We need to act now to prevent an even bigger infiltration of our election system than we experienced leading up to 2016 Presidential elections.
