Donald Trump just released his first official budget document. Let’s keep it plain and simple: it’s a full-throated attack on working people. Trump and his billionaire cabinet want to drastically cut or eliminate programs that combat climate change and assist the poor, while directing billions of taxpayer dollars to fund a border wall, deportation raids, and more fighter jets.
We need to start fighting this disastrous #BillionairesBudget immediately. Thankfully, Democrats have the power to stop this disastrous budget. In 2011, Congress and President Obama created a set of strict spending limits for both military and domestic spending. As a result, Trump’s budget—with its $54 billion in new defense spending—would need to overcome a filibuster to become law. In other words, Democrats have the votes to stop this budget in the Senate.
