Tell HEARST Media and WMUR to Stop Punishing Workers for Joining a Union

HEARST CEO Steven Swartz and the Hearst Family Trust

Workers have a right to join together in a union. But Hearst family businesses have a long record of trying to keep their employees from exercising that right.

What started in the 1899 Newsboys Strike is continuing today at WMUR, where corporate officials have been unwilling to negotiate the continuation of pension benefits with 20 employees who voted to join a union last April.

One of many issues that needs to be addressed at the bargaining table: whether those employees will be able to keep the retirement benefits they have worked for.

Hearst CEO Steven Swartz said that the corporation had “achieved record revenue and profit for the fourth straight year” in 2014 – and they’re poised to do even better this year. So why can’t they negotiate fair wages and retirement benefits for 20 employees at WMUR?

Tell CEO Swartz and the Hearst Family Trust to end their campaign against unions, and to negotiate fairly with the employees who help the corporation make all those record-breaking profits.
