Hillary: Return the Walmart Campaign Money

Sec. Hillary Clinton

Dear Secretary Clinton:

I was disappointed to hear that your campaign receives major funding from notoriously anti-worker families, like Walmart's owners, the Waltons. I call on you to prove that you will truly represent working people by returning all Walmart and Walton money immediately.

Sincerely,

Background:

Secretary Hillary Clinton talks a lot about inequality and taking care of working people lately. But it's tough to trust that Sec. Clinton will stand up for working families given her close ties to anti-union companies, like Walmart and her history of supporting corporate-friendly legislation, like NAFTA. Recently, Sec. Clinton's campaign received generous donations from Alice Walton, heir to the Walmart fortune. Walton donated $353,000 to the "Hillary Victory Fund" on top of her direct campaign contributions. A Walmart lobbyist held a fundraiser for Sec. Clinton.

So far, Sec. Clinton has gladly accepted these donations, despite the fact that Walmart and the Waltons were recently found guilty by the National Labor Relations Board of targeting workers who stood up for their right to speak out. The case revealed Walmart's massive worker surveillance mechanism through which Walmart even partnered with Lockheed Martin and the FBI to track workers and activists.

We have known for a long time that Sec. Clinton remained silent about anti-worker actions during her time on Walmart's board. These recent donations show that her ties with Walmart remain strong. We're calling on her to show that she's accountable to working people, not corporations, by returning these funds to the Walmart Waltons.
