Tell MassDOT: Put Public Health First on Melnea Cass Boulevard

MassDOT Director Stephanie Pollack

For too long, Black people and our communities have been sidelined for traffic projects. Let’s speak up and make sure that we protect the trees on Melnea Cass Boulevard -- and address the history of environmental racism.

We demand a better solution for Roxbury and Melnea Cass Boulevard. Traffic flow cannot trump Black people’s health. The trees in this neighborhood provide critical benefits: cooling our warming summers, cleaning our air amidst COVID-19 and elevated asthma rates, and calm amid an anxious world.

Any solution should ensure that residents’ health is put first. We’re confident that the city and the Department of Transportation have enough talented planners to figure this out without harming the Black community.
