McKay's Owners: Bargain a Fair First Contract!

Anne, Andrea, & Sam (McKay's Owners)

Last fall, McKay's Books Knoxville, Inc. workers banded together and won a union election to form McKay's Knoxville Workers Union-CWA Local 3805. Beginning early this year, a democratically elected bargaining committee sat down as legal equals with ownership and management to bargain a fair first contract and win the changes they deserve, changes that are about dignity and respect. Despite multiple sessions and many proposals passed from the union, they have seen little progress. Instead, ownership has opted to use delay tactics to drag out and slow roll the process. And now, they are pitting stores against one another, just like Starbucks.

Lend your voice of solidarity and call upon McKay’s ownership & corporate management to listen to workers' priorities, to reject union-busting tactics, and to come to the table and bargain a fair first contract in good faith.

When workers exercise their legal right to organize for a better life under the National Labor Relations Act, this betters our Knoxville economy for all. McKay's Knoxville employees won their union; they also won the right to bargain over wages, benefits, and working conditions with their employer.

I call on McKay's ownership and corporate management to listen to workers' priorities, reject union-busting tactics like dragging out the bargaining process and pitting stores against one another, and instead, take the high road - come to the table and bargain a fair first contract in good faith.
