From Detroit, to Traverse City, to Bloomfield Hills, all of Michigan’s students deserve classrooms where they can thrive– engaging lessons in small classes, nurses and counselors who care for our kids, and safe schools where every child belongs.
For too long, a wealthy few have blocked the resources and funding that all students across our state need by not paying what they owe in taxes. You have the power to change this! I am writing to you to encourage you to raise $4.5B in new revenue to fully fund Michigan's public schools. Schools across the State - despite the new budget - still have oversized classes, crumbling buildings, and outdated resources. The money to fully fund our schools exists, but lawmakers like you must have the courage to make wealthy Michiganders and corporations pay what they owe. Fully funding our schools will ensure every Michigan student, regardless of their race, class, or zip code, receives the tools to reach their fullest potential, and it will make Michigan a state that innovators and business leaders from around the world choose to live and grow.
We’re coming together with public education supporters from across the state, and I hope you will join us by taking the steps necessary to support our kids. Our students deserve to have a world class education, and we need fully funded schools to make that dream come true.
