Tell OFWAT: We’re Not Paying for Their Mess.

Chris Walters, Senior Director of Price Review at OFWAT

On 19th December, OFWAT is expected to announce what could be the largest water bill hike in history. We’re pushing back.

Despite overwhelming public opposition, private water companies are pressuring our regulator to approve a staggering 40% average increase in water bills over the next five years, with some areas facing hikes as high as 84%. That is the largest water bill hike in the history of five years reviews.

They claim it’s to invest in desperately needed infrastructure – but a third of our bills right now are to pay dividends and service debt.

For decades, these companies have poured raw sewage into our rivers, causing illnesses and profound ecological damage, and they have let critical infrastructure collapse.

What were the consequences for these companies? A slap on the wrist. And dividends totalling £85 billion for their shareholders and millions in executive bonuses.

So why is OFWAT allowing customers to foot the bill for their mess? This dramatic increase will hit millions hard at a time when living costs are soaring.

We need to tell OFWAT to stand up to water bosses and refuse further price hikes.

Together, we can make a difference. Will you sign this petition and build the pressure to stop any more unfair price hikes?

We the undersigned urge you to reject the proposals to approve the biggest water bill hike in history.

Despite overwhelming public opposition, private water companies have appealed your decision in July to cap prices rises at 21% - asking you to approve a staggering 40% average increase in water bills over the next five years, with some areas facing hikes as high as 84%.

Given a third of our bills right now are to pay dividends and service debt, the claim this price hike is only to invest in desperately needed infrastructure falls flat.
For decades, these same companies have profited while they poured raw sewage into our rivers, causing ecological disasters and illnesses, and let critical infrastructure collapse.

We demand that Ofwat refuse further price hikes and not allow customers to foot the bill for their mess at a time when living costs are already soaring.
