Tell President Biden: #STOPMVP and #STOPMVP Southgate Extension pipeline
President Joe Biden
The Mountain Valley Pipeline (MVP) is a 303-mile pipeline being constructed to carry fracked gas from West Virginia into Virginia. MVP is working to get approval for an extension of that pipeline that will take it an additional 70 miles from southern Virginia into central North Carolina. The addition, the MVP Southgate project, will cut through Rockingham and Alamance counties, ending at a point just south and east of Graham, below 1-85-40. This pipeline violates Indigenous rights and the bulldozers have arrived to plow through sacred burial mounds and Sacred Sites. Pipeline construction is typically broken into chunks called “spreads.” Not one of MVP’s nine spreads is 100% complete; the entire route is only 51% complete. In total, MVP’s route includes more than 225 miles of high landslide risk—more miles than any other approved gas pipeline, comprising more than 74% of the route. The remaining sections to be constructed include some of the steepest slopes, at the highest risk for landslides and threats to clean water. And all this construction damages private property along the way—when there is no public benefit.
MVP would yield the equivalent of emissions from 23 average U.S. coal plants or over 19 million passenger vehicles driven every year.
This pipeline crosses hundreds of streams, creeks, rivers, and watersheds. This means that the Biden Administration can reverse anti-environmental actions taken under Trump that greased the skids for the fracked gas MVP.
Indigenous water protectors and allies are fighting to protect their land. President Biden has the power to stop this project. He can review the permits granted by Trump and halt MVP and MVP Southgate construction immediately.
This will be the first climate test for his administration and we are making it clear that the MVP, MVP Southgate, Keystone XL, Dakota Access, and Line 3 pipelines must be stopped.
Please sign our petition calling on Joe Biden to #StopMVP and #STOPMVPSouthgate immediately and invoke a climate test for all pipelines.

MVP and MVP Southgate is on the same scale as Line 3, Line 5, Keystone XL and Dakota Access. Not only does MVP and MVP Southgate violate Indigenous rights, but the pipeline would also stop in Alamance only to be built further to follow the river to be imported to foreign countries. In total, MVP would yield the equivalent of emissions from 23 average U.S. coal plants or over 19 million passenger vehicles driven every year.
In addition to hundreds of public comments opposing the project, 40 state lawmakers also petitioned DEQ to disapprove it and we have engaged in every step of the process.
Climate science and treaty rights clearly show that this pipeline would harm sacred sites and push our climate further into crisis. Most of the environmental harm would occur during construction, and this pipeline is inappropriate to unnecessarily risk impacting high-quality waters and drinking water supplies of North Carolinians, Virginians, and West Virginians.
We're calling on you to review the permits granted by Trump and halt MVP and MVP Southgate construction immediately. #STOPMVP and #STOPMVP Southgate Extension pipeline.
