Tell Santa Clarita to Protect Dreamers and Immigrant Families

On April 10th, three members of the Santa Clarita City Council passed a motion to agendize a discussion and vote to issue a resolution in opposition to SB 54, the California Values Act, which designates California as a "Sanctuary State".
Available data supports the assertion that sanctuary cities are safer cities. Counties designated by ICE as sanctuary counties actually experience less crime per every 10,000 people. It only takes a single Google search to locate multiple studies that show undocumented immigrants are actually less likely to commit crime than legal residents.
This decision by the council to initiate the process of opposing the California Values Act is nothing but a political stunt to appease far-right extremists, racists, and white supremacists.

Members of the Santa Clarita City Council,
We are writing to you as residents and voters in the City of Santa Clarita. We are urging you to oppose any action that directly threatens Dreamers undocumented families in Santa Clarita, including any action regarding SB 54, the California Values Act.
The California Values Act was constructed and passed with the support of law enforcement leaders both here in Los Angeles County and across the state of California. The California Values Act preserves the ability of federal immigration agents to cooperate with state law enforcement to combat drug smuggling, human trafficking, and gang violence, while protecting some of the most vulnerable members of our community.
To cave to the demands of extremists and white supremacists to score political points would be a black mark on this city and on your legacies as council members.
We urge you to fulfill your duty as public servants to protect all Santa Clarita residents by opposing any action that would threaten or dismantle protections for Dreamers and undocumented families.
