Tell Senator Ayotte To Oppose The TPP

Senator Kelly Ayotte (R-NH)

Petition:

“The Trans-Pacific Partnership fails Granite Staters and puts the interest of wealthy multi-national corporations above hard working Americans.

Because the Trans-Pacific Partnership will:

  • Harm workers and send more jobs overseas
  • Roll back the progress we have made on climate change.
  • Cause seniors to pay more for lifesaving prescription medication

We are calling on Senator Ayotte to publicly rescind her previous support of this disastrous trade agreement and vote against the Trans-Pacific Partnership.”

The TPP was negotiated behind closed doors and fails to address the issues, raised by millions of workers, of the failings of previous trade agreements. Now as the text of the TPP has been made public, we are seeing that this agreement will continue the failed trade policies of NATFA and other “free-trade” agreements.

Congress has just 90 days to review the 6,000 pages of the TPP before they will have an up or down vote on the overall agreement. This means Congress has no ability to amend the agreement. They can only approve it or deny it.

The TPP affects more than just working families.

Millions of seniors are already teetering on the edge of poverty and the slightest increase in their medications would push them over the edge. The TPP will give pharmaceutical companies even more power to block low-cost generic prescriptions from being sold, resulting in higher prescription costs to our seniors.

“The TPP agreement includes language that puts the interests of drug and medical device companies above those of beneficiaries and taxpayers by providing an opportunity for drug and device manufacturers to seek higher reimbursement rates” stated the Alliance for Retired Americans.

The TPP puts our environment at risk by rolling back the small advancements we have made to combat global pollution and slow the effects of climate change.

“The TPP would undermine efforts to combat the climate crisis, empowering foreign fossil fuel corporations to challenge our environmental and climate safeguards in unaccountable trade tribunals via the controversial investor-state dispute settlement system,” wrote Public Citizen.

Senator Ayotte must vote against this disastrous trade agreement that will lead to more jobs being shipped overseas, higher drug prices, and block our effects to protect the environment.
